Using tea dyed cotton muslin, embroidering
then sewing the perfect outline in the hoop, turning inside out for
aged and primitive looking bunting flags. At the request of many of
you ladies, I have added the whole alphabet, so that you wont be
limited to just, MERRYCHRISTMAS
or HAPPY CHRISTMAS,
with a few Christmas images to add to the flags.
A 5x7 hoop is needed as each finished flag is 5.03" x 6.98".

Start with dyeing your cotton
fabric, two to three yards, depending on the width. Drop it dry
into a large saucepan with at least 8 teabags and 6-8 pints of water. Add a
teaspoon of salt, this sets the colour. boil until you are happy with the
depth of colour, don't worry if it is blotchy, that makes it look more
Hoop your tea
stained cotton, I prefer iron on stabilizer
Sew the design or
letter of choic
piece of tea dyed cotton on top of embroidered design or
Sew the outline
Remove from hoop,
trim around the sewn outline. Turn inside out so that the
right side shows, and iron flat.
