Christmas Bunting 4"

Using tea dyed cotton muslin, embroidering then sewing the perfect outline in the hoop, turning inside out for  aged and primitive  looking bunting flags, OR for this version, place the backing fabric on the back instead of over the front, sew the outline, pop from the hoop and trim with pinking sheers for a slightly larger flag. At the request of many of you ladies, this is a 4" version, and  I have added the whole alphabet, so that you won't be limited to just, MERRY CHRISTMAS or HAPPY CHRISTMAS, with a few Christmas images to add to the flags.
A 4x4 hoop is needed. If you would like the 5x7 version, click

Start with dyeing your cotton fabric,  two to three  yards, depending on the width. Drop it dry into a large saucepan with at least 8 teabags and 6-8 pints of water. Add a teaspoon of salt, this sets the colour. boil until you are happy with the depth of colour, don't worry if it is blotchy, that makes it look more authentic

Hoop your tea stained cotton, I prefer iron on stabilizer

Sew the design or letter of choice.

Place another piece of tea dyed cotton on top of embroidered design or letter.

Sew the outline.

Remove from hoop, trim around the sewn outline. Turn inside out so that the right side shows, and iron flat.

Sew or fuse ribbon or cord to the top.
